Random handicap, random course, random round. Work out the score for every hole, mark it, and find out exactly where you slipped.

How the scoring works

1. Spread the handicap by Stroke Index. Take the playing handicap. Every hole gets handicap ÷ 18, rounded down shots. Then the leftover (the remainder) is handed out one each, starting at the hole marked S.I. 1 and counting up. So off 18, every hole gets exactly one shot. Off 24, every hole gets one and S.I. 1–6 get a second. Off 9, only S.I. 1–9 get a shot. A plus handicap works in reverse — shots are added back starting at the highest S.I.

2. Net score = gross − shots received on that hole.

3a. Stableford points from the net score:

  • Net albatross (3 under) or better → 5+
  • Net eagle (2 under) → 4 · Net birdie → 3 · Net par → 2 · Net bogey → 1
  • Net double bogey or worse → 0

Quick formula: points = 2 + (par − net), never less than 0.

3b. Net (medal) total is simply gross total − handicap.

Here's one hole from a playing partner's card. Work out their score, pop it in the box, and mark it — then we'll walk through exactly how it's done. No timer, no pressure.

Not sure where to start? Here's the method

Four steps, every hole:

  1. Shots. How many shots does this handicap give on this hole? Spread the handicap across the holes by Stroke Index — the lowest S.I. numbers are the hardest holes and get the shots first.
  2. Net. Take those shots off their gross score. That's their net score for the hole.
  3. Name it. Compare the net score to par: net birdie (1 under), net par (level), net bogey (1 over), and so on.
  4. Points. Read the points off the ladder below.
Net eagle (2 under)4
Net birdie (1 under)3
Net par (level)2
Net bogey (1 over)1
Net double bogey or worse0

The bit that catches everyone out: a net par is worth 2 points, not zero. You always start from 2 for a par and add or subtract from there.

Scoring
Pick your course and enter gross scores to see who is leading.

Courses are generated, not real — the maths is identical to any club card. Full card drills a whole round; Quick fire drills one hole at a time for speed on the move. "Playing handicap" here is the number you actually allocate by Stroke Index (slope and course rating are a separate step that doesn't change how you mark the card).
